Rainbows in Federal Court
June 24, 2010, 5:26 pm
The Rainbow Family gathering in the Allegheny National Forest doesn't officially start until next week. But some members of the loose-knit group have already been charged with various offenses by members of the U.S. Forest Service. Today about 45 members of the group appeared by U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan Baxter at the Erie Federal Courthouse. And lots of U.S. Forest Service officers were there. The Rainbow Family members were charged with a variety of offenses including drug paraphernalia, blocking traffic, speeding and interfering with law enforcement. Most of the offenses were resolved without an actual hearing. Prosecutors say they expect to be busy for the next couple of weeks hearing cases stemming from the gathering in the remote Queen Creek area of Warren County.
