911 Call for People Through Ice, False Alarm
March 9, 2010, 3:14 pm
Several crews responded to an emergency call of two people who fell through the ice.
The call came in just after 1:00 Tuesday afternoon.
A person on the bluff called 911, after they thought they saw two people fall through the ice, near the foot of Chestnut street.
The fire department, the scuba team, and coast guard all responded.
Fire fighters looked with binoculars along the Bayfront, while members of the scuba team went out onto the ice to investigate.
They did not find anything. And none of the other ice fisherman said they saw anything either.
So, after about 45 minutes the search was called off at around 1:50 in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, Erie Fire Department's Deputy Chief, Jeff Carroll, says as of now conditions along the bay for ice fishing are sill okay. But he says if the temperatures continue to warm up through the week, the ice could get very dangerous.
