Julie Coates
Julie received her Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Ohio University and went on to the Ohio Center for Broadcasting to hone her on-air skills.
Julie grew up in near by Conneaut, OH where her family still lives. She decided on being a broadcast meteorologist because according to Julie, "It is the quickest way to get important information to the public." Julie loves to interact with the viewers and chose TV over radio because the public gets to see her and they "feel like they know me when I go out around the city." So if you see Julie around town be sure to say Hi!
This is Julie's first job out of college. She began as an intern working with 12News Futuretrack Weather Chief Meteorologist Rob Wilson. Julie says she learned a great deal. "It's a lot harder than it looks, Rob is good at his job, he makes it look easy."
Julie loves the Erie area, it's close to home and "there's so much to do here, all year long." Some of the things Julie likes to do might surprise you. "I'm a huge sports fan. I watch everything from boxing to NASCAR." Her favorite baseball team is the New York Mets.
Julie's Dad is into sports as well and has got Julie hooked on street rods. She hopes someday to own a '40 Willys Coupe. Her family is at the core of Julie's life. Her niece is her pride and joy. "I love to watch her at gymnastics. She's always there to make me laugh."
