Peek n' Peak Opens

At this time last year, 100 inches of snow had already fallen at the Peek n' Peak ski resort near Clymer, New York. This year, the total is just 5 inches. CLICK FOR VIDEO But with snow making equipment running full steam, the resort was able to open this morning. Last year, the complex opened for skiing on November 23. But, actually a couple of weeks before Christmas is about average for Peek n' Peak to open for skiing.General Manager Brad Gravnik said, "We're a little behind but we have a real good cold stretch in place now, we should by the middle of next week be 75% to 80% open." The resort turned on it's snow making equipment a week ago when the temperature dipped to 28 degrees. Right now 8 slopes are open along with the main chair lift. And many other trails are expected to be open by the weekend. Managers say while the resort has had financial problems in recent years, they are optimistic the situation has improved. And strong season ticket sales have them hopeful crowds will be large despite the poor economy.
