County Council Says Tax Hike Coming

November 5, 2009, 10:04 pm

Erie County Council will spend the next week and a half deliberting the 2010 Fiscal Budget. They just finished several weeks of budget hearings with all of the County Department heads.  They tell 12News it is a definite Erie County Property owners will be receiving a tax increase of at least 50 dollars on the home valued at 100,000 dollars.

The County, like many other counties in the state, will not be receiving anticipated state and federal money.  But at the same time, the county is mandated to fund social service agencies like OCY and Mental Health Programs.

Adding to the County's budget woes are those 3 and a half percent pay increases for many county union workers.  That was negotiated with the Divecchio Administration months ago............

Council has until November 17th to adopt a 2010 County Budget.
