Local Flu Outbreak Not Subsiding

November 2, 2009, 3:27 pm

The local outbreak of H1N1, or swine flu, isn't showing any sign of slowing down.  CLICK FOR VIDEO  The County Health Department says there were about 500 new cases just last week. At Saint Vincent Health Center's Emergency Department, the number of patients is up about 20% from normal and it is not slowing down. The hospital is trying to prevent even more new cases by issuing temporary visitor guidelines. Wayne Jones, D.O. said, "If you have a cough, cold or you think you may have the flu, we urge you to stay home. Don't expose the rest of the patients at the health center to it. The other thing we find people under the age of 18 are very predisposed to this type of virus. So anybody under the age of 18, unless you have to be here you should not come to visit."
