County Executive Campaign Wraps Up

November 1, 2009, 6:09 pm

Election Day is just around the corner.
One of the most important races is for the position of county executive.
The political showdown continues as both candidates begin to wrap up campaigning.
Democratic Candidate Barry Grossman is spending his time visiting some of the areas churches, including the 2nd Baptist Church.

"Campaigning is great, especially at places like this (2nd Baptist Church)," said Grossman.  "I like stops like this because when I leave these African American churches I always tell ministers you better watch out, I might want to sign up.  Because you leave here feeling so darn good."

Grossman, along with his family, will spend the next couple of days speaking with local folks.
It's all in an effort to gain some last minute votes.
His opponent, Republican Candidate Mike Kerner is also busy wrapping up his campaign.

"I've been out everyday for months until dark," said Kerner.  "We just had a couple of days around Labor Day where there was rain.  But other than that, it's been great to go out and meet a bunch of people."

Kerner spent some of his last hours on the campaign trail, at Kuhl Hose Fire Department's NASCAR Party at St. Boniface on Wattsburg Road.
With the election coming up on November 3rd, both candidates tell us why they feel they should be elected county executive.

Democratic Candidate Barry Grossman

"I think we have a vision.  I think we have articulated that vision.  I want to make sure I am the county executive for everybody.  For people in the north, in the south county, for people that are young, for people that are old.  We talk about inclusion and we talk about working together to make the best community that it can be."

Republican Candidate Mike Kerner

"I believe that we need to fix the 911 Center.  As a firefighter, that is a number one priority for me.  I think we need to try and get the property tax under control.  I believe that we should  have a  referendum for all tax increased in Erie County, and I've been pushing that from the beginning, and I do not think Erie County should be sponsoring a community college on the back of taxpayers."
