November 5, 2005, 6:18 pm

Early Saturday morning, Erie Police arrested the man wanted for a deadly shooting outside of a west side bar early Thursday morning. Police say 19 year old Matthew Perez-Jefferson, also known as Matthew Perez, turned himself in, after being on the run for 2 days. 19 Year old Matthew Perez-Jefferson was arraigned Saturday afternoon after he turned himself into Erie Police. Perez-Jefferson is now in the Erie county prison without bond facing charges including murder for the shooting death of 21 year old Paul Martinson. Police say Perez-Jefferson shot Martinson in the chest in front of the Antigua Blue Tavern on West 26th Street in Erie. An Erie police patrolman received a call from Perez-Jefferson's family early Saturday morning, that he was ready to turn himself in.
"Our patrol and our neighborhood action team really stepped up the efforts to make contact with all his known acquaintances." Erie police say they're relieved to have made a quick arrest and they have a suspect in custody. Meanwhile a memorial of writing on the wall, flowers, and pictures of Paul Martinson sits in front of Antigua Blue on West 26th Street where he was gunned down early Thursday morning. Friends of Martinson like Joseph Knight, "He was a good dude, I ain't gonna say he wasn't, ya know, he had things rolling the way he did and I'm sorry to see his life taken like that." Friends and family will continue to mourn the loss of Martinson, while friends like Knight are relieved that his killer is finally behind bars, "I appreciate that he turned himself in due to the simple fact that look you cant be having this out here with way too much violence out there coming from a young person like me, we don't need to see this much violence." Perez-Jefferson's preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 11th. Before the homicide, he was already facing drug charges from an unrelated incident.
