GOP Lays Groundwork in Congressional Race

Democratic Congresswoman, Kathy Dahlkemper has been on the job only four months, and the Republican Party is already laying the ground work to challenge her in the 2010 election. 12News has learned that Erie County Republican, Brian Lasher plans to make a formal announcement on May 15, that he will seek the Republican Party nomination for Pennsylvania's 3rd District seat in the U.S. Congress. Lasher is expected to make the announcement at the Veteran's Memorial on State Street.
Lasher, a Social Studies teacher at Collegiate Academy, is also a veteran with twenty-five years of service. He has been deployed three times since the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, most recently serving a one year tour of duty in Iraq, last year. Lasher told 12News that he wants to give voters in the district a choice, and he is announcing his intentions early, so that he can get his campaign up and running over the summer months, while on break from his teaching duties.
Erie County GOP Chairman, Brad Moore says Lasher is not the only Republican interested in running for congress. Lasher and Crawford County insurance broker, Steve Fisher, were both introduced as prospective candidates last Friday evening at the GOP's annual fund raising dinner in Warren County, and political insiders believe there will be others.
