Strokes (September 2008) What health issues and concerns matter to you and your loved ones? One week each month Saint Vincent doctors and specialists will focus on one health issue in WICU 12News at 6. Click here to send your question to our skilled staff. According to the American Stroke Association, about 700,000 Americans each year suffer a new or recurrent stroke. That means a stroke occurs every 45 seconds in this country. If someone suffering a stroke can get to an emergency room with certified stroke specialist within the first eight hours of the onset of symptoms, there is a good chance for a full recovery. In the September, Saint Vincent Health Insights reports, we’ll provide you with information on stroke and the stroke program at Saint Vincent Health Center, which has earned multiple national recognition awards. We’ll show you why it’s important to recognize the signs and symptoms of stroke; provide you with information on the latest advances in stroke treatment; and introduce you to the region’s only neurointerventionalist who uses high tech equipment that can stop a stroke while it’s happening.
